NC11 Rewind: Friday

The following e-mail was sent to parents of NFTY Convention participants on the evening of Friday, February 18th:

Dear Parents,

NFTY Convention 2011 is underway! As I see nearly 1,000 teens and youth workers streaming into the conference hotel, I am looking at this amazing schedule of events and I couldn’t be more excited! With incredible speakers, top-notch Jewish entertainers, and a remarkable group of Reform Jewish teens, this convention is going to be the best in a generation.

Before the fast paced days of learning and social action begin, we will all slow down for Shabbat. Tonight, we will raise our voices in song and prayer to welcome the Sabbath Bride. Together with youth workers and convention staff, we will sing late into the night at a spirited song session. Tomorrow, we will gather for Torah study and worship, marching together with the Torahs as a community, convening to read Torah together and hearing a message from Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie, President of the Union for Reform Judaism.

As NFTY President I am proud of the work that NFTY is doing to raise awareness about the growing problem of bullying amongst teens. We’re making an impact on our environment through our work to address overconsumption in our world, and we continue to explore what makes a Jew Jewish. Most of all, I am proud to be part of this extraordinary gathering here in Dallas.

Look for more updates from NFTY Convention 2011 and keep an eye on the NFTY Convention blog for pictures and videos throughout the weekend.

Shabbat Shalom,

Daniel Landesberg
NFTY President
