On June 24, 2012, I began what would soon be the biggest milestone in my Jewish journey. Not knowing that I would have any other NFTYites on my flight, I luckily ran into 3 familiar, smiling faces. What felt like minutes after taking my seat on the plane, I was at Newark Liberty International Airport with a HUGE group of Jewish teens from around North America, and the world! The next 26 days were to be the best of my life – the URJ Kutz Camp. Being my first sleep-away camp experience, I was a little overwhelmed by everything that was going on. With our region having the largest population of NFTYites at Kutz (Almost 40!), everywhere I looked, there was someone that I knew.
For starters, the Kutz campus is beautiful: the views, the fireflies, the nature, everything. What really made Kutz a home instead of just a pretty camp were the 200+ Jewish teens, both attending camp and staffing it and our leadership team.
When I got back to Florida, I only returned to my house…46 Bowen Rd, Warwick, NY is now my REAL home, and I cannot wait to return next summer and for years to come! If Kutz were a book, I’d recommend it to you all. Money is NOT an issue! If you want to go, you WILL get there, without a doubt. Everybody was amazing. All-in-all, I had the time of my life at the URJ Kutz Camp for a summer I’ll NEVER forget. I’ve grown as a leader, a Jew, and most importantly, a person. Please join us next summer!
