By Julia Motis, NFTY-PAR Member and BOFTY President
I’m Julia Motis and I’m the President of BOFTY in Maple Glen, PA. On Friday, November 2, we held our Annual Spaghetti Dinner. It was incredible and we set a new record! We had over 200 people come and enjoy some delicious pasta and desserts to help support our scholarship fund so we can have more members attend NFTY Convention this February! As a Board, we put together the raffle baskets, helped in the planning, and waited tables at the event. Although it got a little stressful with so many people there, everyone handled it very well and we were able to keep going and get everyone their food. We also enlisted the help of a couple parents of BOFTY Alumni to do the cooking. They have been the “BOFTY Chefs” since BOFTY first started hosting this annual event! These two incredible women are a well-oiled machine. They even have adorable shirts just for this night. I have been an active member of BOFTY my entire high school career and this was my third spaghetti dinner.
As President and as a senior, I could not have asked for this fundraiser to go better. The support from our congregation was remarkable! This dinner overlapped the Preschool’s Muchkin Minyan, which was focused around 4 year-olds singing and celebrating Shabbat together as one large class and community. We raised over $600, and we plan to do more fundraising soon. I’m so proud of my BOFTY Board and our advisor for our accomplishments!
