NFTYites Get Excited to Attend AIPAC Policy Conference 2016

By Jeremy Cronig, NFTY President

The AIPAC Policy Conference is coming up this weekend (March 20-22), and the NFTYites attending could not be more excited! The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. Every year in Washington, DC they hold an event called Policy Conference (PC), which attracts over fifteen thousand pro-Israel advocates from across the world. PC is the largest gathering of America’s pro-Israel community. Through demonstrations of groundbreaking Israeli innovations, keynote speeches by American and Israeli leaders, inspiring moments on stage, and intimate educational sessions, Policy Conference delegates experience the full scale of pro-Israel activism in three powerful days.

When I attended my first PC last year, I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of the event. With so many people coming together with the sole purpose of strengthening the American-Israel relationship, I was assured that Israel’s future was secure. AIPAC brings together both liberal and conservative, republican and democrat in a bipartisan manner; something we do not often see today. Last year we had the opportunity to hear Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speak in person. He spoke to the assembly about how vital American support was to the State of Israel. This idea that I had an important part to play in strengthening my homeland was extremely powerful to me. I left Policy Conference more engaged and invested in the American-Israeli relationship and was inspired to become more educated on this topic. Because of my attendance at AIPAC PC last year, I developed a deeper and most invested connection to our Jewish homeland.

This year promises to have the same excitement as well! The 2016 Policy Conference is highlighted by speakers such as Vice President Joe Biden, House Speaker Paul Ryan, leading Presidential candidates and so many more. We NFTYites attending this year are all looking forward to learning, growing and lobbying with thousands of other Israel advocates throughout the weekend.
