April was an exciting month for NFTY, and we want to share some of the important work and engagement that took place throughout the month.
In April alone, NFTY…
- Ran 18 events in 17 regions
- Took action in support of Sexual Violence Prevention and Gun Violence Prevention with thousands of Reform Jews
- Celebrated Israel’s 70th Birthday
Thank you for your help in making this happen! Read on for additional updates and what’s coming up as we head into summer.
NFTY’s Sexual Violence Prevention Campaign
We proudly launched NFTY’s Sexual Violence Prevention Campaign this month with more than 3,500 program hours dedicated to learning about sexual violence awareness and prevention so far this year.
Teen leaders on NFTY’s Sexual Violence Prevention task force produced videos, blog posts, divrei Torah, youth group programs, poetry, and resource guides to help educate our community about the issues that surround sexual violence. This content was viewed more than 15,000 times in April alone! Find these resources and share them with your teens on the NFTY Sexual Violence Prevention Campaign webpage and on our social media pages.
A major outcome of the task force’s work was the introduction of a senior pledge against sexual violence, which has been signed by more than 500 graduating seniors. This pledge is a powerful statement about living the values of NFTY beyond high school and bringing awareness and action to our college campuses and beyond. Ask your congregation’s teens to sign this pledge, and be sure to use the accompanying discussion guide to debrief with them afterwards.
In addition to the senior pledge, NFTY partnered with URJ Kutz Camp and URJ Mitzvah Corps to create guidelines for healthy consent. NFTY will be adding this language to our Brit Kehillah (Code of Conduct).
NFTY Takes Action for Gun Violence Prevention
Building on our work in March around Gun Violence Prevention, on April 10th, NFTY joined Reform Jews everywhere to demand that congress enact common sense gun violence prevention policies. Reform Jews from 23 states spoke with 85+ members of Congress. Teens from KESTY, the youth group at Temple Emanuel in Kensington, MD, hosted a call-in night to make calls together and amplify their collective voices.
We have also continued our #TeensTaketheBimah project, encouraging teens to share divrei Torah with their local congregations. See what teens have been saying and encourage your teens to share their own words of Torah.
Mark your calendars: In June, NFTY will once again participate in national Wear Orange Day. Check NFTY’s Gun Violence Prevention webpage for details as they become available.
Celebrating Israel’s 70th Birthday
NFTY celebrated Israel’s 70th birthday with a week-long social media campaign that included an interactive timeline of Israel, blog posts, resources and sample programs. The celebration will continue throughout the entire year! Stay tuned to social media for recipes and activities to bring to your youth group
