Barak Malkin, Senior Regional Director NFTY-GER and Urban Mitzvah Corps, NFTY Garden Empire Region (GER)

Barak is excited to return to his roots in NFTY-GER where his passion for being a Jewish Youth Professional began almost 20 years ago. Barak began his career working for synagogues in New Jersey part-time while maintaining his full-time accounting job (shout out to EESY in Edison and SMOOCHY in Hillsborough). He spent those years collaborating with other synagogue professionals on events, professional development trainings, and as a guest educator for programs like Urban Mitzvah Corps.

After receiving his Certification in Jewish Education for Adolescent and Emerging Adults from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 2012, Barak moved to the west coast, where he served as the Director of Community and Youth Engagement at Temple Sinai in Glendale, California. While in Los Angeles, Barak served on the advisory council of the Los Angeles Teen Initiative and presented at the URJ Biennial and NFTY Youth Engagement Conferences on topics related to helping youth professionals solidify their role within their synagogues. Barak found his way back to the east coast when he took on the role of Assistant Director at URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy in 2016. He lives with his wife, Michelle W. Malkin, and their son, Gideon, in West Orange, NJ.
