NFTY-MAR WINTER KALLAH
JANUARY 13-16TH, 2023
AIRFIELD CONFERENCE CENTER, WAKEFIELD, VIRGINIA
REGISTER ONLINE NOW – REGISTRATION CLOSES DECEMBER 28th (extended deadline!)
We are SO excited to be bringing back our NFTY-MAR Winter Kallah regional event, taking place January 13-16th, 2023 in Wakefield, VA. This event is 4 days and 3 nights of Teen-led programming, bonding, and Judaism. The event will take place at the 4-H Center in Wakefield, VA and is anticipated to have more than 100 Jewish teens from all over the region in attendance. This will be the largest, in-person, NFTY-MAR event since Winter Kallah of 2020. For the first time in three years, the MAR region has the opportunity to come together for a weekend of unforgettable moments, friendships, and more.
Who can attend: ANY 8-12th Grade Jewish Teen! *If you are registering an 8th grader, there is not an option on the form for 8th when asking for grade – just go ahead and put 9th grade and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to let me know I should change it on the back end to 8th grade!*
In order to make our programming more accessible to all, this program will be using a “Pay What You Can” model. The true cost of this event is $575 per participant. For some, this suggested fee is a barrier for participation; others may be able to contribute more to make this opportunity possible for others. Please pay what you can to support the work of the Reform Jewish Youth Movement. Please select one of the registration amounts listed.
Scholarship: Financial reasons should never be a barrier for teens to be able to attend and participate in URJ Camps & Immersives programs. INSTANT Scholarship can be accessed during registration. If you have questions about scholarships or any other registration question, contact email@example.com (Hannah Demick, NFTY MAR Advisor)
Transportation: Transportation IS now being provided for NFTY-MAR Winter Kallah thanks to numerous generous congregations and donors! There is no additional cost for transportation, only the registration cost of the event is required. More details regarding specific bus stops and timing will be sent out to registrants in the 2 weeks prior to the event. It is not required to use the provided bus transportation, though we ask that you let us know your travel plans in advance. Teens cannot drive themselves to the event without written permission form the adult running the event & their parent.
Meals: All meals will meet dietary needs as much as possible including gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian. Please be sure to indicate your teen’s most up to date dietary needs in their registration. Each meal is served “kosher-style”, so there are “dairy meals” vs “meat meals” throughout the weekend, so there are no dairy and meat served in the same meals.
Housing/ Staffing: The retreat center offers bunk-style housing with up to 8 teens per room. Teens can put two roommate requests on their registration form, which we will do our very best to accommodate. There will be a many adult youth group advisors, educators, and rabbis attending the event, along with a handful of college students who are NFTY-MAR Alum that will be assisting over the weekend.
Interested in being staff for the event? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
What is NFTY-MAR?
NFTY’s Mid Atlantic Region, NFTY-MAR, encompasses all reform synagogues from Maryland, eastern West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina excluding Charlotte. NFTY is the Reform Jewish Youth Movement that gives high school students an outlet to meet other Jewish teens in their area and explore their Jewish identity in a fun, welcoming and vibrant community.
Who can go to the NFTY-MAR Winter Kallah event?
All 8-12th Grade Jewish teens in the Mid-Atlantic Region are welcome to join us for this monumental NFTY-MAR event. In the meantime, how else can I get involved in NFTY-MAR?
Not able to make it to Winter Kallah? No problem, we will have other NFTYx sub-regional events in the spring – dates and locations are still being confirmed.
Check back here for updates, follow our instagram @nfty_mar, and make sure to sign up for our regions email updates here: https://urj.tfaforms.net/645
What are “sub regions”?
NFTY-MAR is traditionally “split up” into 4 subregions. Sub regional events act as a “taste of NFTY” type of event, as well as a bonding experience for local youth groups!
Not sure what subregion or Temple youth group (TYG) you are in? Check out our NFTY-MAR TYG Cheat Sheet HERE
Registration is also OPEN for NFTY-MAR Southern MAJYK event for 6-8th graders, at Judea Reform Congregation in Durham, NC – January 7th, 2023 from 4-8PM!
You can register your 6-8th grader for Southern MAJYK here: https://www.judeareform.org/event/nfty-mar.html
We are working on solidifying a date and location for a Middle School Kallah (MAJYK) in the Virginia and/or DMV areas in the Spring!

By Jess Becker and Zoe Terner A year ago this March, our lives changed forever. We marched on Capitol Hill, we walked out of our schools, we demanded that our representatives listen. For our friends in Parkland, for our siblings, for our children, for our teachers,...
As many people in NFTY know, if I hadn’t become a NFTY regional director, I would have become a music teacher. I have been incredibly lucky to have had opportunities to build meaningful relationships with students through teaching music in various capacities over the past decade. There is something so gratifying about facilitating other people’s personal growth.
NFTY Convention was a weekend full of fun, laughter, and new memories. Friendships were formed, community was built, and we were all inspired to lead. Perhaps most importantly, though, change was sparked in our Movement.
