Spring Kallah FAQs
WHAT EXACTLY IS THE SPRING KALLAH?
The Conclave is a teen-powered, community-driven event for all 8-12 graders in the NFTY-Southern Region.
Here, teens will build a community that supports their visions, encourages them to share their talents and experiences, and creates space for them to teach each other skills they can use now and over the course of their lives.
As a participant at The Conclave, you will:
- Form lasting relationships: Meet other Jewish teens from around the South, make new, exciting connections, and get to know people you’ve crossed paths with before even better.
- Make our movement stronger: Find your place throughout the Reform Jewish Youth Movement in NFTY, camps, social justice work, & fellowships. Leadership comes in all forms, and whichever form interests you, you have a home here.
- Explore what makes you Jewish: Everyone expresses their Judaism uniquely, whether it be with nature, art, deep conversation, music, or something else. Discover yourself and your Jewish identity with other Jewish teens.
- Explore Torah: Find your way of Jewish spiritual practice, while you shape the best version of your well-rounded, Jewish spiritual self.
WHO CAN COME TO THE KALLAH?
All 8th-12th graders are welcome to attend this teen-powered weekend. All are welcome, whether it is your first event or your fiftieth.
WHO IS PLANNING THE KALLAH?
The Spring Kallah is planned by The NFTY Southern Region Board. The Board has been working hard this semester to put on an event within our Southern Region.
WHAT SHOULD TEENS PACK?
We will provide a packing list in our pre-event email you will receive the week before The Kallah. In general, clothing should be casual. We recommend bringing layers because it tends to be colder in the evenings at camp in Spring.
WHAT IS HOUSING LIKE AT THE KALLAH?
Housing at The Kallah will be in camper cabins. Each cabin hosts 14-16 teens with 2-4 college aged residential advisors. Camper Cabins are connected by conjoined bathrooms.
Bunk Requests: Registration for The Kallah includes space for you to share the names of friends you would like to be housed with for the event. Please note that rooming is assigned based on gender identity, and while requests are not a guarantee, we do our best to make sure that every participant is comfortable with their housing. Requests are optional and many do not submit housing requests.
HOW DO TEENS GET TO THE KALLAH?
Registration fees DO NOT include the cost of travel to and from your home to our programs.
- Driving to Camp: If your teen lives close enough to be driven to camp, they need to be driven by an adult 21 years or older. The Kallah participants are not permitted to drive to or from the event.
- Congregation Provided Transportation: Depending on the amount of registrants from your congregation or area, your local Synagogue may be providing a carpool or bus to this event. Please reach out to your local Youth Group Advisors and Temple Educators to find out more information.
- Jackson (JAN) Airport: We will be providing transportation to and from the JAN airport on an individual basis. If you plan on traveling by air, please let us know as soon as possible, in the registration form. Flight information including, date, time, and flight code will need to be emailed to Zoe Cole upon booking.
- Travel Windows:
- Friday, March 21st – All flights must arrive at Jackson (JAN) Airport by 3:00 PM CT.
- Sunday, March 23rd – All flights must depart by 12:00 PM from Jackson (JAN).
